The World Turned Upside Down… Civil War and Interregnum Warwickshire

A talk by Philip Yorke

Arguably the most turbulent time in modern British history, the 18-year period between 1642-60 saw the downfall of Charles the First, the establishment of a short-lived British republic and the rise of Oliver Cromwell and Puritanism. But at a local level, what impact did this have on Warwickshire – and is the county’s contribution confined to the Battle of Edgehill? Historical fiction author Philip Yorke examines the events that defined the region, highlighting some of the principal figures and towns willing to sacrifice everything for the causes they served
