Bring Home the Hoard!

Help us “Bring the Hoard Home”…

Warwickshire Museum Service has launched a fundraising campaign to raise £62,000 to buy a major Roman coin hoard, found recently in Warwickshire.

Join us at Market Hall Museum for fundraising gala evening on Friday 5th April, from 7- 10.pm.  Meet guest speaker Dr Stanley Ireland of Warwick University, who catalogued the first South Warwickshire Hoard. There will be a rare chance to see the pot that the coins were found in and some examples from the previous Roman hoard, along with other treasures from Roman Warwickshire..

The hoard, made up of 440 silver denarii coins was uncovered during an archaeological dig at a Roman site on the Edge Hill in 2015. They were buried in a ceramic pot over 1900 years ago, under the floor of a building. It has been declared as Treasure and now Warwickshire Museum needs to raise £62,000 to acquire the hoard for the county. We have four months to raise the cash.  Applications have already been submitted to major grant givers, and condition of the purchase is that a minimum of £3,000 needs to be raised locally.

Tickets cost £20 and include a complimentary glass of prosecco on arrival, and canapés. During the evening a raffle and auction will be held with all proceeds going to the campaign, along with all profits from the tickets and the bar.

Donations are also welcome from all supporters of Warwickshire heritage, and visitors to the Museum.  Donation boxes in Market Hall Museum will be specially re-branded with all proceeds from Friday 1st March to the Fundraiser on 5th April.

Your support will help us “Bring the Hoard Home” to be displayed at Market Hall Museum giving Warwickshire’s residents and visitors to Warwickshire the opportunity to enjoy for generations to come.

Tickets can be purchased from the museum by calling 01926 412500 or by calling in to Warwick Museum in the Market Square
